Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville

Organic Agriculture Innovation Platform

Our Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville facility, which opened in 2013, is the largest facility in the country devoted to organic farming research and development. The site located in the Montérégie region boasts 90 hectares of certified organic farmland; 11 types of drained soils; long-term production plots; and seven laboratories specializing in microbiology, entomology, and weed science. The facility enables IRDA to conduct important organic farming projects on fertilization, crop safety, and the control of pests such as insects, diseases, and weeds.

IRDA also operates an eight-hectare experimental orchard inside the provincial park at Mont-Saint-Bruno. At this unique apple research site, also open to the public for U-pick, researchers work on reducing the need for pesticide applications by using an approach that emphasizes integrated fruit production.
