Second biggest compost-grown pumpkin in Canada

Once again, IRDA has achieved national recognition for its expertise in the areas of soil, irrigation, fertilization, and automation. As part of the 2018 Compost’s Giants contest organized by the Composting Council of Canada, the IRDA-grown pumpkin was proclaimed heavyweight champion in Québec and came in second for all of Canada.

Weighing in at 616 lb., the IRDA pumpkin was a close runner up to the 624 lb. winner from Winnipeg. The fruit was weighed at IRDA headquarters in Québec City. Renowned horticulturist and author Larry Hodgson was on hand to certify the results.

On Saturday, October 13, 2018, the giant pumpkin was carved out to make a boat for the Potirothon de Gentilly Regatta, a friendly competition that sees participants paddle down the Bécancour River in their giant floating pumpkins.
