Each year, IRDA's R&D Team conducts more than one hundred research projects in sustainable agriculture. What's more, IRDA is working with Quebec's key agricultural stakeholders to find concrete solutions.
This project will develop a versatile tool that will allow to simulate the impacts of agricultural practices on soil organic matter.
Researchers: Aubert Michaud, retraité Marc-Olivier Gasser Simon Ricard
This project will determine the optimal post-emergent nitrogen dose to apply.
Researcher: Christine Landry
This research project, initiated by the CÉROM grain research centre, looks to assess the cost-effectiveness of nitrogen fertilizer applications improved by the addition of urea, for use with winter wheat crops grown in Québec.
Researcher: Luc Belzile
This project proposes an intervention in a typical potato cropping system to enhance the crop uptake of water and nitrogen.
Researcher: Carl Boivin
This project’s main goal is to demonstrate how to satisfy most of the requirements of a strongly N-dependent crop by improving N-supply synchronization, while protecting the farmers’ prior year revenue-generating window.
Researcher: Christine Landry
The objective of this project is to develop a prediction model for soil nitrogen supplies based on biological soil health indicators.
Researcher: Christine Landry
This project evaluated the impact of various corn, soya, and wheat fertilization methods on marketable yields, harvest quality, nitrate losses, and movement of microorganisms potentially pathogenic for humans.
Researcher: Caroline Côté
The aim of this project was to gather data on the nutritional requirements of barley to better equip producers, extension agents, and other industry stakeholders.
Researcher: Christine Landry
The aim of this project was to gather data on the nutritional requirements of oats to better equip producers, extension agents, and other industry stakeholders.
Researcher: Christine Landry
IRDA—in its capacity as the authorized representative tasked with revising the MAPAQ fertilization reference charts—will plan, coordinate, and monitor all activities involved in updating these charts.
Researcher: Christine Landry
The project compared the nitrogen uptake effects of green manure crops grown for a full season, in association with a main crop, or after it is harvested.
Researchers: Aubert Michaud, retraité Marc-Olivier Gasser Maryse Leblanc
In a wheat/grain corn/soya rotation, green manure can be used to obtain profitable organic grain corn yields while limiting phosphorus pollution.
Researcher: Christine Landry
A literature review, a survey of organic grain producers, and an analysis of historical yield and climate data in order to document the effects of climate extremes on yields and soil nutrient availability.
Researcher: Marc-Olivier Gasser
This project was carried out by Club agroenvironnemental de l’Estrie and IRDA was in charge of conducting the economic analysis.
