About

Christine Landry (agr., Ph.D.) earned a doctoral degree in renewable resources from the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at McGill University in 2009. She also holds a bachelor's degree in biology from Université de Sherbrooke, a bachelor's degree in agronomy (specialization in soils and the environment) and a master's degree in the physiology of crop yields from Université Laval. From 1993 to 2002 Christine held various research-related positions at Université Laval, including at the horticultural research centre, and as a teaching assistant in the agronomy department laboratory. She has a keen interest in teaching, and every summer she hosts internships for students seeking their first experience in agri-environmental research. Christine has been employed at IRDA since 2003 as a researcher in chemistry and soil fertility. She works on the preparation of fertilization reference charts and the development of control protocols for optimizing soil fertility and biomass conversion.

By enhancing our understanding: 1) of the nitrogen supply dynamics associated with the use of mixed green and farmyard manure applications, and 2) of the timeline of nitrogen uptake by garlic; we hope to fine-tune fertilization strategies so they meet the needs of garlic crops, while minimizing phosphorus accumulation and nitrogen leaching.

Evaluating the effect of seeds coated with commercial, mycorrhizal fungi inoculum on the yields of nantes carrots grown in mineral soil early in the organic transition process

Test whether or not commercial strains coated on Nantes carrot seeds can compete with native strains in the soil to colonize the host plant and, once symbiosis takes place, whether they succeed in doing a better job than the native strains during the transition to organic farming.

A study on synchronizing the supply of n from green manure in order to reduce or replace the use of swine slurry as a fertilizer for post-emergent corn, in the context of the transition to organic farming

This project’s main goal is to demonstrate how to satisfy most of the requirements of a strongly N-dependent crop by improving N-supply synchronization, while protecting the farmers’ prior year revenue-generating window.
